I knew when we decided to undergo a major house renovation that life would get messy. I have my fingers crossed that we will be on schedule to break ground in April, but at the moment we’re faced with mountains of stuff to deal with. It’s amazing how many things you can accumulate over the years. I’ll be so relieved once we box it all up, give it away and have an estate sale. A big old purge! So while in the midst of redesigning the house, I’ve set this goal to simplify and better define what really matters to me and my family. Last spring I discovered an incredibly talented photographer named Jonathan Canlas. John shoots 100% film. He wrote a book called FIND (Film is not dead), for digital photographers and hosts FIND workshops all around the globe. After reading his book, I was dreaming of attending one of his workshops. When I contacted him, a seat had just opened up for FIND Mexico. I booked this at a really chaotic time in our lives, but I knew that this workshop would help me to find my purpose and reinforce my decision to be a film shooter. It was an unforgettable experience that I will continue to learn from for years to come. Every morning we had a topic lecture, a critic of our work and then shooting with models who were all former attendees of FIND. We got to watch John in action and then break into groups to practice shooting. I was so excited about shooting that I hadn’t really focused on the critic segment of the workshop. I honestly had nothing together to share beyond this blog which has needed a makeover (a familiar theme around here!) forever. It was hard to share something that I didn’t feel great about and John is a tell-it-like-it-is kind of guy which I appreciate, even if it’s hard to hear. He had some great suggestions for me! So before the house gets it’s makeover~my website is almost done! Here’s a preview of what is to come and more on Mexico will follow.
My niece Kendall is passionate about dance. Her practice schedule can be quite intense but she puts her whole heart into it. She is a resilient and beautiful young woman that is gifted in so many ways and I love to photograph her.
Our annual Ward Pound Ridge Reservation picnic took place on a gorgeous Fall day. My friend Carolyn is a gourmet chef and she organized and prepared everything! It was so nice to see old friends at the very same picnic table that we’ve been going to since our childhood. The food was amazing and it was fun for me to photograph the kids in the pines! The tradition continues!
I can’t think of a more fitting theme for a Wadsworth Mansion Wedding then old Hollywood! Meghan Sidoti of The Connecticut Wedding Group did a fantastic job planning this wedding! She handled all of the fabulous details which makes guests really enjoy themselves and my job so inspiring~Details Rule! I also discovered my favorite Photobooth company! Photobooth Planet rents to Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
