Happy Mother’s Day!

Hello fellow Mom friends! I had the most wonderful day yesterday with my son at the New Canaan “May Fair”. I’ve been going to this event my entire life and it’s so fun to share the experience with him. He sees his friends from school and I run into old high school buddies. But you should know that I am obsessed with the swings! Corban and I both agree that we need to invest in one of these amusement park rides and install it in our backyard! Forget a pool, we’ve got a river. Now we just need some flying in the air action. The million dollar moment was Corban telling me that he’d had “the best day ever” just as I tucked him in to bed! I love being a Mom, challenging as it is sometimes. Happy Mother’s day gals!

I think that my niece is as fond of this ride as we are!

New Canaan Soccer Association

Soccer season officially starts a week from today. With house renovations underway and wedding season about to hit full tilt, life is really busy around here. The travel soccer team practices on Mondays, Wednesdays, has skill clinics on Fridays and games (often out of town) on the weekend. My son is so proud to be part of the New Canaan Soccer Association and since he loves to run, he is always quick to claim that he is a “striker”. Am I even spelling that correctly? Am I a typical soccer Mom? Not by a long shot but what’s typical anyway? However, I’m a huge advocate for building kids self esteem through healthy outlets. We celebrated by taking a “Soccer Rock Star” portrait of him. We are going to be offering portrait specials from now until Mothers day, so fill out the contact link above to schedule your session. Holiday Portraits at the Beach

I’ve done holiday pictures for my friend Joanne since she had her first baby. This year, Olivia has a new baby brother and we decided to make it a whole family affair including cousins too. It was a gorgeous but windy day at the beach and the last day that would be comfortable enough to do a warm weather shoot with the kids barefoot. I loved seeing all the kids interact. Olivia loves her new brother and the two older boys are best buddies. If you still need holiday portraits, I have a couple of openings and will be shooting them until the end of the month. We will be offering a free 8×10 custom print for each session booked.

I’ve had the most incredible 24hrs. Yesterday was the annual May fair in New Canaan and I got to spend a quick hour or so there with my sunshine. I think the fact that I was limited on time made deciding which ride to go on easy and fast. I LOVE the swings. My son has never been on them and now he LOVES the swings. I was so excited to be able to take some pictures. This is one of those rides that I just want to stay on for an hour or so, especially if I am shooting. After just two rides, we had to race home as I had to get to Hartford to second shoot for my friend Criag Norton. It was a gorgeous wedding and I’ll leave you with a teaser shot from that until I can post some more. I’m off to go celebrate Mothers Day with my Mom and sisters. I’m going to try to get some portraits of everybody while there. This should be interesting.

We’ve just finished our Spring break from school. Somehow, it’s been very hectic, with just enough work to prevent us from straying to far from home. So after cancelling all of our reservations to Tahiti, (Yeah right! Dream on girl!), I resigned myself to take the time to do some fun day excursions when we could. It actually ended up being a lot of running around with trips to the city, Mystic Seaport and Aquarium and just hanging with friends. I’m glad to get back to work today as my busiest season is just starting and I have some exciting things to prepare for. I loved Mystic Seaport and especially the Charles W. Morgan whaleship. It is the last of it’s kind in existence, built in 1841. It is undergoing a three year renovation and is worth the trip to the Seaport alone.

I have yet to try one of these bike taxis.

Home Sick with Pneumonia

My poor little guy was abnormally quiet and cuddled up with the cat on Friday. I thought that it was just my good fortune that he would let me take his picture. He normally hates it. We went on to have a full weekend including soccer team try outs and dinner with friends and family. I knew Sunday that he was sick and that I would have to get to the doctor on Monday morning, but I never expected the outcome to be pneumonia. We were given a Z-pack and an inhaler to use four times a day. I feel so bad for him, but grateful that we got treatment and that we normally don’t have health issues to deal with.

Shooting Christmas Portraits

This is the second time that I’ve photographed Olivia. She was really just a baby when we did our first session. Kind of like shooting a doll that you place somewhere and move around to get a good shot. Well hello toddler! Now she’s on the move and has a very busy agenda. Shooting little kids is always fun and a challenge. Sometimes I totally love the so called “out takes”. I got a few of those shots with Olivia where they almost seem dreamlike. Maybe it’s just shooting a little person in a white dress in an open field that I have fun with. Don’t worry Mom, we have plenty that are suitable for Christmas cards too. It’s pretty hard to take a bad picture of this little beauty. Here are a few that caught my eye.

It’s Celebrate Moms Month!

Since I’ve got quite a few Birthday parties in the line up lately, (yeah, weddings and birthdays all seem to be scheduled during the warm weather), I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of having photographs that we cherish of our loved ones. I have so few photographs of my son, and virtually none of he and I together, since I’m the one always taking the pictures. I’m on a new mission to overcome his resistance to being photographed. After all, if I can shoot him, I can shoot anyone! And on Mother’s day, I am going to take my Mom somewhere special and photograph her! For several years I’ve wanted to do a series on my Mom. She is an incredible woman.

So, I am running a special all month for Moms! I’m talking about Moms having a sitting with their kids, children (like me) who want photographs of their Moms, expectant Moms, Grandmothers etc..It’s all about the matriarchs this month and we are celebrating with any on location shoot for $225, including an 8×10 fine art print of one your favorites. This is a busy month, before a busier Summer season, so I would urge anyone who’s interested to inquire before dates fill up.
